Stitch guide and Abbreviations

This page contains the stitch guide and abbreviations for my regular crochet and Tunisian crochet patterns.

Crochet

ch – chain

dc – Double Crochet – yarn over, insert hook into stitch, yarn over, draw yarn up into a loop (3 loops on hook), yarn over, pull through 2 loops, yarn over, pull through the remaining 2 loops on the hook.

dcdec – Double Crochet Decrease – yarn over, insert hook into stitch, draw yarn up into a loop (3 loops on hook), yarn over, pull through 2 loops (2 loops on hook), yarn over, insert hook into the next stitch, draw yarn up into a loop (4 loops on hook), yarn over, pull through 2 loops (3 loops on hook), yarn over, pull through all three loops on the hook.

dcdec-beg – Double Crochet Decrease in the beginning – ch2, yarn over, insert hook into the next stitch, draw yarn up into a loop (3 loops on hook), yarn over, pull through 2 loops (2 loops on hook), yarn over, pull through both loops on the hook.

dcinc – Double Crochet Increase – make two double crochet stitches in the same stitch.

dcinc-beg – Double Crochet Increase in the beginning – ch3, dc in the first stitch.

fpdc – Front Post Double CrochetYarn over, insert your hook from side to side and pick up the post of the indicated double crochet stitch OR the front loop of the indicated stitch if there is no double crochet stitch, yarn over, pull through into a loop on the hook, yarn over, pull through two loops on the hook, yarn over, pull through two loops on the hook.

fpdc2tog – Front Post Double Crochet 2 Together – Yarn over, insert hook from side to side  and pick up the post of the first indicated double crochet stitch OR the front loop of the indicated stitch if there is no double crochet stitch, yarn over, pull through into a loop on the hook, yarn over, pull through two loops on the hook, yarn over, insert hook just like earlier into the second indicated stitch, yarn over, pull through into a loop on the hook, yarn over, pull through two loops on the hook, yarn over, pull through three loops on the hook.

fs-beg – Feather Stitch at the beginning – Insert hook into the next ch sp, yo, pull through into a loop on the hook (3 loops on hook), yo, insert hook into skipped stitch or ch sp right below the current ch sp, yo, pull through into a loop on the hook (5 loops on hook), yo, insert hook into the next ch sp, yo, pull through into a loop on the hook (7 loops on hook), yo, pull through all 7 loops on hook.

fs – Feather Stitch – Insert hook into the same ch sp where the last leg of the previous feather was made, yo, pull through into a loop on the hook (3 loops on hook), yo, insert hook into skipped stitch or ch sp right below the current chain sp, yo, pull through into a loop on the hook (5 loops on hook), yo, insert hook into the next ch sp, yo, pull through into a loop on the hook (7 loops on hook), yo, pull through all 7 loops on hook.

hdc – Half Double Crochet – yo, insert hook into next stitch, yo, pull through into a loop on the hook (3 loops on hook), yo, pull through all 3 loops on hook.

sc – Single Crochet – Insert hook into the next stitch, yarn over, pull through into a loop on the hook, yarn over and pull through both loops on the hook.

sc-blo – Single Crochet in the back loop only – Insert your hook into the back loop of the indicated stitch, yarn over, pull through into a loop on the hook, yarn over, pull through two loops on the hook.

sk – skip

ws Waistcoat Stitch Insert hook into the space between the two vertical bars of the next stitch, yarn over, pull through into a loop on the hook, yarn over and pull through both loops on the hook.

sp – space

sts – stitch(es)

Tunisian Crochet

bli – Back Loop Increase – Find the horizontal bar at the top of the vertical stitch and insert hook there, yarn over, pull through the horizontal bar into a loop on the hook.

bob – Tunisian Bobble Stitch

  • HDC bobbles – (Yarn over, insert hook in the next stitch, yarn over, pull through into a loop on the hook) * 4 times – you will have 8 loops on the hook, yarn over, pull through all the 8 loops, chain 1.
  • DC bobbles – (Yarn over, insert hook in the next stitch, yarn over, pull through into a loop on the hook, yarn over, pull through two loops on the hook) * 4 times – you will have 4 loops on the hook, yarn over, pull through all the 4 loops, chain 1.

ch – chain

ch sp – chain space

dec – Decrease – Insert hook into the vertical bars of the next two stitches , yarn over, pull through both the vertical bars into a loop on the hook.

fs – First Stitch – Skip the first vertical bar of the previous row (the one right under the one on the hook). The loop on the hook will count as the first stitch for every row. 

ks – Knit Stitch – Insert hook in the space between the two vertical bars of the next stitch, pull through into a loop on the hook.

ls – Last Stitch – Pick up the two vertical bars of the last stitch of the previous row, yarn over, pull through both the vertical bars into a loop on the hook.

tfsTunisian Full Stitch – Insert hook into the next space between two stitches, yarn over, pull through into a loop on the hook.

tps – Tunisian Purl Stitch Bring yarn forward, insert hook into the vertical bar, yarn over, pull through into a loop on the hook.

trsTunisian Reverse Stitch – Insert hook in the back vertical bar, yarn over, pull through the vertical bar into a loop on the hook.

tss – Tunisian Simple Stitch – Insert hook in the vertical bar, yarn over, pull through the vertical bar into a loop on the hook.
