Instructions
The design for the border panels is meant to be calm and meditative. I wanted something simple that didn’t need a lot of memorizing — just easy, relaxing stitching. You’ll find zigzag lines and squares that are worked using the double running stitch. The nice thing is that this pattern is very forgiving, so if you make a small mistake, it’ll still look great.
TOP AND BOTTOM PANELS (MAKE 2)
Row 1 (FR): This is the Foundation Row.
With FC, chain 291, make the foundation row stitches in the back loops of the chain.
Rows 2 – 11: fs, 289 tss, ls.
BOR: fs, 289 tss, ls.
This will be the bind off row. You will make a slip stitch every time you pick up a loop on your hook. Fasten off and weave in ends.
LEFT AND RIGHT PANELS (MAKE 2)
Row 1 (FR): This is the Foundation Row.
With FC, chain 13, make the foundation row stitches in the back loops of the chain.
Rows 2 – 249: fs, 11 tss, ls.
BOR: fs, 11 tss, ls.
This will be the bind off row. You will make a slip stitch every time you pick up a loop on your hook. Fasten off and weave in ends.
Once you’ve joined your 50 panels, you can start attaching the border panels around them. I recommend using stitch markers to mark your stitches evenly across the border panels — this helps ensure the borders are joined evenly. Also, make sure to block your panels after finishing the embroidery; it makes the joining process much easier.
Finishing
Once the border panels are joined, you can finish the blanket by working a few rounds of regular crochet all the way around using a 3.25 mm (D-3) hook:
Round 1: With FC, single crochet around with 3 stitches at the corners.
Round 2: With FC, single crochet in back loop only around with 3 stitches at the corners.
Round 3: With BC, single crochet in back loop only around with 3 stitches at the corners.
