The Vajra Infinity Scarf is one of my very first Tunisian crochet designs — and it’s one I still love dearly. Worked in the round with a double ended hook, the brioche design gives it a rich, textured look that feels special without being complicated. It’s a piece that has stood the test of time, and I think that says everything about how wearable and beautiful it really is.
The brioche technique is actually much easier to achieve with a double ended hook than you might expect, which makes this a really enjoyable project to work on. The design features a mix of large and small diamonds that come together to create a pattern that looks intricate but is very manageable once you get into it. I made mine using Scheepjes Whirl — a lovely color changing yarn that is an absolute pleasure to work with. The way the colors shift as you work really adds another dimension to the finished scarf and makes every round feel like a little surprise!
This blanket pattern was originally hosted as a CAL in 2019.
The CAL-specific information has since been removed from this page,
leaving just the pattern information for easy reference and readability.

Technique and difficulty
This is an intermediate level Tunisian crochet pattern. If you are an ambitious beginner, this is for you too.
Size
The scarf is made up of a repeat pattern of 28 stitches. My scarf is made of 12 repeats and measures 13″ (33 cms) in height and 80″ (200 cms) in circumference. The size of your scarf will vary depending on how many repeats you choose. The calculations for estimating the size of your final scarf are included in the pattern.
What you will need (with clickable affiliate links)
- Yarn: Yarn requirements will vary depending on how many repeats you choose. You will need fingering weight yarn in two colors. To make a scarf of similar size as mine, you will need 1000 yards (Color 1: 400 yards – the foreground (brioche pattern), Color 2: 600 yards – the background)
- I used one Dandelion Munchies Whirl and one Liquorice Whirlette.
- Hook: I used a 5.5 mm double ended Tunisian crochet hook. You might need to go up / down a size to obtain correct gauge.
- Scissors
- Tapestry needle to weave in tails
- Stitch markers in 2 colors
This is a reversible pattern and looks great both ways even though the front and back are very different (brioche in the front only).

WOW ! - and WOW ! again. I'm just knocked out by this beautiful cowl. As I know about the cro-hook; and as brioche is my favourite thing, Vajra is going to be added to the NFPs list (next favourite projects, of course). You're about as creative as they come, Arunima !

Thank you Janean! I would love to see how it turns out for a man. To make it a straight scarf, you could start every row on the same side - That would mean that you will have to cut both colors at the end of every line and re attach at the beginning of the next line. And, you are welcome to join my Facebook hangout group to share pictures and ask any more questions: https://www.facebook.com/groups/knitterknotterhangout/
I am also planning to host a CAL that will start later in the month. You are welcome to join that too :) I will post more details on my blog soon!

Beautiful work! Just gorgeous! I'd like to make this as a scarf for a man (he'd like red foreground, navy background)... Shorter and not connected as an infinity scarf. Is there an easy secret to making it a straight scarf rather than an infinity scarf? It will be my first time doing something like this! But it's so beautiful, I can't help but try!
