Colorful crayon holder – Free pattern!

Colorful crayon holder - Side view

This crayon holder is fully functional. Because it looks just like crayons,  kids will know exactly where to put away their crayons when they are done. Hope you will enjoy making it as much as I did!

Materials
  1. Worsted weight yarn in 8 colors
  2. 4 mm (G) crochet hook*
  3. Scissors
  4. Tapestry needle to weave in tails
 
Gauge
Gauge is not important here. Use a hook that is a size smaller than the recommended size for the yarn you choose. This is to make the project dense enough to stand on its own.

  1. Diameter – ~9.5 cms
  2. Height – ~12 cms
 
Abbreviations
  1. ch – chain
  2. sc – single crochet
  3. sl st – slip stitch
  4. inc – single crochet increase
  5. dec – decrease 2 stitches together
  6. dec3 – decrease 3 stitches together
  7. st(s) – stitch(es)
 
Colors
  1. C1 – Black
  2. C2 – Dark Green
  3. C3 – Orange
  4. C4 – Light Blue
  5. C5 – Red
  6. C6 – Light Green
  7. C7 – Dark Blue
  8. C8 – Pink
 
Notes
  1. This project works in a continuous round so the crayons might be slightly slanted.
  2. Any yarn can be used for this project along with an appropriate hook. This will only change the dimensions of the project. The pattern will remain the same.
  3. The total number of stitches on each round is indicated in brackets at the end of each line.
  4. There are multiple ways you could carry yarn to the next round:

Round 8: First round of crayons (still a part of the base)

Round 28: Do not turn, this round is worked in the same direction as the previous one – ch (does not count as a stitch), dec in the next 2 sts, sc in the next st, dec in the next 2 sts (3 sts)
Round 29: Do not turn, this round is worked in the same direction as the previous one – ch (does not count as a stitch), dec3 in the next 3 sts (1 st) -> fasten off and weave tails in.
