Pankh Dishcloth – Free Pattern!

The Feather Stitch is a beautiful stitch that is super easy to make! When I started making a swatch, it turned into a dishcloth 🙂 You can make them in any color and they will look great!

What you will need (with clickable affiliate links)

  1. Yarn: Worsted weight yarn – 1.5 oz / 40 gms / 75 yards / 70 m
  2. Hook: 6.5 mm crochet hook 
  3. Scissors
  4. Measuring Tape
  5. Tapestry needle to weave in tails

Gauge

3 rows of 3 Feather Stitches is a 1 inch (2.5 cms) square.

You do not have to match my gauge exactly. Depending on your crochet style and tension, the size of your project will be different. You can use any yarn with an appropriate hook to make this dishcloth. See the Sizing and Adjustments section below to modify the size of your dishcloth.

Abbreviations

fs-beg – Feather Stitch at the beginning – yo, insert hook into the next ch sp, yo, pull up a loop on the hook (3 loops on hook), yo, insert hook into skipped stitch or ch sp right below the current ch sp, yo, pull up a loop on the hook (5 loops on hook), yo, insert hook into the next ch sp, yo, pull up a loop on the hook (7 loops on hook), yo, pull through all 7 loops on hook.

fs – Feather Stitch –  yo, insert hook into the same ch sp where the last leg of the previous feather was made, yo, pull up a loop on the hook (3 loops on hook), yo, insert hook into skipped stitch or ch sp right below the current chain sp, yo, pull up a loop on the hook (5 loops on hook), yo, insert hook into the next ch sp, yo, pull up a loop on the hook (7 loops on hook), yo, pull through all 7 loops on hook.

Sizing and Adjustments

My dishcloth measures 7″ x 7″ approximately.

To adjust width, add / remove stitches in multiples of two. Your foundation row should have odd number of stitches.

To adjust height, add / remove rows of feather stitches as needed.

Instructions

This pattern is written in US terms.

Row 1: Make a row of 23 Foundation Half Double Crochet stitches. 

Row 2: ch1, hdc in first stitch, * ch1, skip next stitch, hdc in the next stitch; repeat from * until the end of the row, turn.

Row 3: ch1, hdc in first stitch, ch1, fs-beg, ch1, * fs, ch1; repeat from * until the end of the row, hdc in the last stitch, turn.

Rows 4 – 17: Repeat Row 3 .

Row 18: ch1, hdc in first stitch, * hdc in ch sp, hdc in the feather stitch; repeat from * until the end of the row, hdc in ch sp, hdc in last stitch. Fasten off and weave in ends.
