Ruffled Waters Shawl – Free pattern!

If you have been following my blog, you must know that I have been experimenting with Tunisian crochet a lot lately. I had bought a beautiful Scheepjes Ombré Whirl (Turquoise Turntable) a few months back and wanted to make a triangle shawl with it.

What you will need (with clickable affiliate links)

  1. Yarn: One Scheepjes Whirl OR Fingering weight yarn – 200g / 915m / 7oz / 1000yards.
  2. Hook: 5.5 mm Tunisian crochet hook – You will need a cord or hook that is long enough to accommodate ~750 stitches at once
  3. Scissors
  4. Tapestry needle to weave in tails
  5. 53 Stitch markers (optional)

I usually plan ahead and figure out exactly what I want to make before I start working on something new. But, this time, I started with just two goals – to make a triangle shawl, and to keep it simple.

I tried a few different stitches and settled with the beautiful Mori Lace Pattern. I decided to make alternating bands of the Mori Lace Pattern and the Tunisian Knit Stitch and when I was close to the end, I decided to make a ruffle.

This shawl reminds me of the calm of the ocean that breaks into waves close to the shore. And, that’s the reason I named it ‘Ruffled Waters’.

The pattern is reversible and looks great on both sides!

Since it was my first time designing a triangle shawl, I made small swatches to make sure that I was getting the triangle shape right. But, when I made my final shawl, the shape did not turn out to be a proper triangle because I wasn’t making enough increases as the shawl progressed. I had made close to three quarters of the shawl when I decided to frog everything and start again. I am glad that I did because I was able to fix the shape and I am very happy with how it turned out eventually!

Hi, I love this shawl so much. It was my second ever tunisian project. The first one was the Turquoise Fiesta Shawl, which turned out also very pretty! I hope you will design a lacy shawl in the future...
