Beginner Tunisian Crochet Blanket Pattern: Aditya Blanket

This beginner Tunisian crochet blanket pattern offers a fresh and unique design that I’m sure you’re going to love! If you enjoyed working on the Roshan Blanket, you’re definitely going to enjoy this one.

I am really excited to share the second blanket in my textured Tunisian crochet blanket series with you – the Aditya Blanket! An easy crochet pattern for all skill levels.

Just like its predecessor, the Aditya Blanket is designed with simplicity and mindfulness in mind, so you can enjoy some calming crochet. The technique is based on two stitches only and it’s simple enough for beginners to easily accomplish!

The Yarn

For the Aditya Blanket, I picked the super comfy Pound of Love by Lion Brand Yarn. This worsted weight, premium quality yarn not only gives fantastic stitch definition, but also guarantees a warm and snuggly feel. Plus, Pound of Love yarn comes in a beautiful range of colors, so you can make your blanket truly unique. I used the color Claret so that it would suit my home décor.

Tunisian crochet hooks

I used a Tunisian crochet hook from my Denise Interchangeable Hook Set to make my cozy blanket.

No More Curling

We all know that curling can be quite the nuisance in Tunisian crochet blanket patterns, but don’t worry, the Aditya Blanket pattern has got you covered!

By incorporating non-curling Tunisian crochet stitches, like the Tunisian Reverse stitch, we can create a neat border that effectively keeps curling at bay. And you know what’s even better? The border is worked directly into the blanket as you crochet, so there’s no need to add it afterward!

The Aditya Blanket truly showcases a simple mix of only two Tunisian crochet stitches, however, it creates a lovely, textured look!

Just like with the Roshan Blanket, this beginner Tunisian crochet blanket pattern focuses on using a single color, allowing the stitches to work their magic. This approach means you can genuinely immerse yourself in the soothing rhythm of Tunisian crochet, without stressing over different colors of yarn changes, or complicated instructions.

What you will need (with clickable affiliate links)

  1. Yarn: 2 skeins of Lion Brand Pound of Love yarn – The pictured sample  was made with color Claret and used  25 oz / 700 g / 1560 yds / 1425 m of  yarn.
  2. Hook: 8 mm (L – 11) Tunisian crochet hook with a cable.
  3. Scissors
  4. Tapestry needle to weave in tails
  5. Measuring Tape

Yarn requirements are just estimates. If you choose to make a different size or if your yarn, hook size, crochet style, or gauge differ, you might need more / less yarn than mentioned above.

Experience Level

Easy – This blanket pattern expects basic knowledge of starting and ending a Tunisian crochet project and how to make Tunisian Knit and Reverse Stitches

Gauge

14 rows of 12 stitches in the stitch pattern make a 4 inch square (blocked).

Gauge is not important in this pattern, you can use any yarn you like with an appropriate hook and the pattern will not change.

However, keep in mind that the size of your blanket will vary depending on your style of crocheting and tension.

Sizing And Adjustments

This crochet pattern is written for a 34” x 48” (86 cm x 120 cm) blanket but it is easily adjustable.

To adjust height: Add / remove rows in  multiples of 5
To adjust width: Add / remove stitches as needed

You could make an afghan, lap rug, baby blanket or throw with this sure to be popular, beginner Tunisian crochet blanket pattern! All you need to do is change up the size.

  3. tks –  Tunisian Knit Stitch – Insert hook in the space between the two vertical bars of the next stitch, pull through into a loop on the hook.
  4. trs – Tunisian Reverse Stitch – Insert hook in the back vertical bar, yarn over, pull up a loop on the hook.
  5. FR – Foundation Row

Pattern Notes

  1. This beginner Tunisian crochet blanket pattern is written in US terms.
  2. This project is worked flat and does NOT require a double ended hook.
  3. Refer to the Sizing section to adjust the size of your blanket.
  4. The instructions below are only for the forward pass. The return pass for every row is the same:
    • ch1, (yo, pull through two loops)* until one loop remains on the hook.
Tunisian Crochet Blanket by KnitterKnotter made in color Claret with Lion Brand Pound of Love Yarn. The stitches used create a beautiful, textured pattern. The pattern is easy to memorize and you can make it in any size you'd like!

Instructions

FR: Chain 102.
This is the foundation row, make the stitches in the back loops of the chain.

Rows 1 – 7: fs, 100 trs, ls.

Rows 8-11: fs, 100 tks, ls.

Row 12: Repeat Row 1.

Rows 13 – 167: Repeat rows 8 – 12.

Rows 168 – 172: Repeat Row 1.

BOR: Repeat Row 1.
You will make a slip stitch every time you pick up a loop on your hook. Fasten off and weave in ends.

Blocking

I highly recommend blocking your blanket before use, as this project combines two different stitches.

For acrylic yarn, I’ve found that steam blocking works best, so I stretched out my beautiful blanket, pinned it to a blocking board, and then proceeded with steam blocking.
