The Shreya Blanket is one of my kids’ absolute favorites, thanks to its vibrant colors and the playful pom poms! This Tunisian crochet blanket is made with colorful hexagons using the Honeycomb stitch, making it a perfect project for anyone looking to try working in the round. Since it’s made up of individual hexagons, you can easily adjust the size to suit your needs!
Crafted with colorful hexagons in the honeycomb Tunisian crochet stitch, the Shreya blanket is a cheerful and fun project. I used a yarn color pack for each hexagon, giving each one a unique color, but you can easily incorporate your yarn scraps for a more personalized touch. This free Tunisian Crochet Hexagon Blanket pattern is a great way to practice the in-the-round technique, and there’s even a free video tutorial to guide you through the process!
Each hexagon works up quickly, making this a great project for crafting on-the-go. I often worked on it while my kids were at lessons or during school pick-ups. You can also adjust the size of the blanket as you go—extending it is simple!
I’ve added optional pom poms to the design, which really bring an extra bit of fun to the blanket. My daughter has already claimed it as hers, and I just adore how much love and joy this colorful afghan brings to our home. I hope you enjoy making the Shreya Blanket as much as I did!

What you will need (with clickable affiliate links)
- Yarn: Worsted weight yarn in two colors – 1750 yards / 1600 m / 800 gms / 28 oz. I used:
- All 24 colors from the KnitPicks Brava Mini Pack in colorway Rainbow (1 mini skein each)
- KnitPicks Brava Black (5 skeins)
Note: This yardage mentioned here does not include yarn for the pom-poms. I used additional 2 skeins of the KnitPicks Brava Black yarn for making the pom-poms. The yardage for individual hexagons is listed further in the pattern.
- Hook:
- 8 mm (L-11) hook for the forward pass
- 6.5 mm (K-10.5) hook for the return pass
Note: When using a double-ended hook with the same size on both ends, I recommend an 8 mm (L-11) double-ended hook or one that meets gauge.
- Scissors
- Tapestry needle to weave in tails
- Stitch markers (optional)
- Pom Pom Maker (optional)
Yarn requirements are just estimates. If you choose to make a different size or if your yarn, hook size, crochet style, or gauge differ, you might need more / less yarn than mentioned above.
Tunisian Hooks
I made my blanket with a double ended hook that I created from my Denise Interchangeable hook set. I used a 8 mm hook for the forward pass and a 6.5 mm hook for the return pass. You can find a full review of all the hooks I own on my blog.
Yarn
I have used Brava Mini Packs (Rainbow colorway) to make my Tunisian crochet hexagon blanket. It includes 24 different colors and was perfect to make this colorful blanket.

Forward and Return Pass Instructions
Note: If this is your first time working in the round, I highly recommend watching the accompanying tutorial before diving in.
To work in the round, you’ll need a double-ended hook. In this pattern, I used an 8 mm hook for the forward pass and a 6.5 mm hook for the return pass. You will need a different strand of yarn for each pass, with color C1 for the forward pass and color C2 for the return pass.
Forward Pass: You will pick up loops on your hook from one end (the 8 mm hook). The right side of your project will be facing you.
Return Pass: You will remove loops from your hook using the other end (the 6.5 mm hook). Make sure the wrong side of your project is facing you. To remove loops from your hook:
– At the beginning of your blanket – yo, pull through one loop.
– At all other times – yo, pull through 2 loops until there are 3 or 4 loops left on the hook.
Remember, each time you switch between the two passes, you’ll need to turn your work and slide your loops to the opposite end of the hook.

This is the bind off round. You will make a slip stitch every time you pick up a loop on your hook. Fasten off and weave in ends.
Blocking
I suggest blocking each solid hexagon using your preferred blocking method before assembling the Tunisian crochet hexagon blanket. I steam blocked my hexagons since I used acrylic yarn for my blanket.
Joining
I used the single crochet join method to connect my full hexagons. Feel free to use any joining method of your choice.
Add Pom Poms (optional)
Create 24 pom-poms measuring 2.5 inches each and attach them as indicated by the black dots in the following image:
And… we’re done!! This has to be one of the most colorful blankets I’ve ever made, and it’s been such a joy sharing this journey with you. I hope you loved making your version just as much as I did!
