I have always wanted to make myself a sweater, but the thought of making a garment used to intimidate me.
So, one day, I decided to take the plunge and make something simple. I crocheted this drop shoulder sweater that is made with 4 rectangles only.
I added some texture and designed the front and back with, what look like, vertical panels.
This sweater was so much easier to make than I expected, and I really enjoyed making it!

Note: I made this sweater last year and I have grown by a size since then. This picture is now of a size S sweater on a model of size M (me). It is supposed to have about 4″ of ease and I almost did not post this picture but I love how it fits me even if it isn’t what I intended. All other pictures in this post are on a size S model (my friend).
The yarn
I used Baby Alpaca by Lion Brand Yarn to make my sweater. This yarn is light, soft and very warm. It made a very cozy sweater that I really enjoy wearing!

The hooks
I used my Knitter’s Pride Ginger Interchangeable Tunisian Crochet Hooks to make this sweater.
Here is a review of the Ginger Tunisian Crochet hooks if you’d like to take a look. There are a bunch of other Tunisian crochet hooks that I use. You can read a review of all the hooks I use here.

Gauge
16 sts and 18 rows of Tunisian Knit Stitches is a 4” / 10 cm square.
16 sts and 12 rows in the Lace Pattern is a 4″ / 10 cm square.
Please measure your gauge swatch after blocking. The measurements above are for a blocked swatch. My gauge with this yarn was significantly different for an unblocked swatch.
If your gauge is different than mine, it will affect the size of the sweater. It may end up being smaller or larger than the measurements listed.

Construction
There are two sets of identical rectangles:
- The front and back panels
- The two sleeves
The panels are aligned as shown in the picture and then the sides are seamed to make the sweater.
Pattern Notes
- This pattern is written in English / US terms.
- The lace section is the Mori Lace pattern which is a two row repeat. Refer to the Resources section for a video tutorial.
- All tfs stitches mentioned in the pattern are made in the chain spaces from the previous row.
- The instructions below are only for the forward pass. The return pass for every row is the same:
- ch1, (yo, pull through two loops)* until one loop remains on the hook.
Pattern Repeats
All stitches are made in the next available stitch unless mentioned otherwise. For simplicity, repeats are mentioned in this pattern in the following ways:
- trs * rep1 ->
If rep1 is 13, then trs in the next 13 stitches - (tss, tfs) * rep2 ->
If rep2 is 11, then repeat (tss, tfs) 11 times
Note: You will pick rep1 and rep2 in the next section.

Blocking
Block the front and back panels and the sleeves separately before assembly.
Assembly
Step 1: Identify points (C1, C2) and (D1,D2) by measuring 6.5 (6.75, 7.25, 7.75) [8.5, 10.25, 11, 11]” / 16.5 (17, 18.5, 19.5) [21.5, 26, 28, 28]cm from the points G and H respectively. Mark these points with stitch markers.
Step 2: Identify points I and J by measuring 6” / 15.25 cm from points G and H respectively. Mark these points with stitch markers. You can move the markers closer to or farther from each other depending on how large you want your neck hole to be.
Step 3: Seam the shoulders:
- G to I
- H to J
Step 4: Attach the sleeves to the front and back panels:
- D1 to H to D2
- C1 to G to C2
Step 5: Seam the sleeves:
- (D1, D2) to (F1, F2)
- (C1, C2) to (E1, E2)
Step 6: Seam the front and back panels:
- (A1, A2) to (C1, C2)
- (B1, B2) to (D1, D2)

I love the way the sweater looks on you! Fantastic! Thank you for sharing your talent and patterns.

The sweater is SO pretty. And I think you were very wise to go with all white. I'm still too timid to crochet a garment (and the seaming part would have to be done by someone else), but if I get brave, this sweater will be at the top of the list to try. Thank you for the pattern!
