Easy Tunisian Mosaic Crochet Triangle Shawl: Free Pattern

I am thrilled to share my latest project in Tunisian Mosaic Crochet – a magnificent triangle shawl. The drape is lovely, and the warmth the Meera Shawl provides, is perfect for cooler weather.

The best part? It’s super easy to create! This crochet triangle shawl pattern is made with just an 8-row repeat, using a Tunisian hook. Despite its simplicity, the Meera Shawl turned out beautifully, and it’s one of my favorites to wear.

The yarn I used is heavenly to work with, and the soft colors and pattern complement each other perfectly. You can customize this crochet triangle shawl pattern to your preference by swapping out the mosaic pattern with any design you like. Plus, you can make it bigger or smaller, depending on how much yarn you have or what size you’re going for.

Wrap yourself in the beauty of the Meera Tunisian Mosaic Crochet Shawl! This stunning triangle shawl, adorned in Tea Rose (pink) and Cream hues, is crafted with the exquisite KnitPicks Palette fingering weight yarn.

The yarn

I absolutely adore the KnitPicks Palette yarn! Crafted from 100% Peruvian Highland Wool, it’s truly delightful to work with. The extensive array of colors it comes in is fantastic, and it provides excellent stitch definition while draping beautifully.

The hooks

I used a hook from my Denise Interchangeable Hook Set to make this shawl, using the Tunisian crochet technique.

There are a bunch of other Tunisian crochet hooks that I use. You can read a review of all the hooks I use here.

Dimensions

My crochet triangle shawl measures 52” (134 cms) at its widest point and the spine measures 25” (63 cms).

Adjustments

This free Tunisian crochet shawl pattern is made with a mosaic pattern repeat of 8 rows. You can continue to work the 8 repeat rows until you reach the size you desire.

The width of the mosaic section can be adjusted by adding / removing stitches in multiples of 8.

What you will need (with clickable affiliate links)

  1. Yarn: Fingering weight yarn in 2 colors (462 yards / 422 m / 100 gms / 7.2 oz each). I used KnitPicks Palette two skeins each in the following colors:
    • Tea Rose
    • Cream
  2. Hook: 5 mm (H – 8) Tunisian crochet hook
  3. Scissors
  4. Tapestry needle to weave in tails

Experience Level

Easy – The pattern expects basic knowledge of starting and ending a Tunisian crochet project and how to make the two stitches used in Tunisian Mosaic Crochet.

Gauge

18 rows of 19 stitches in the mosaic pattern is a 4” square.

Gauge isn’t crucial for this pattern; feel free to use any yarn and matching hook of your choice without altering the pattern. However, the final size of your crochet triangle shawl might differ based on your yarn, crocheting style and tension.

Pin this for later!

Pattern Notes

  1. This pattern is written in English / US terms.
  2. This pattern uses the Overlay Tunisian Mosaic Crochet technique.
  3. Tip: Add reminders for visual inspection of your shawl after every few rows. This is easy to forget and adding a note to remind yourself works really well in catching errors early.
  4. Tip: To keep track of your stitch counts and where to begin your simple stitches, use a stitch marker to mark the last stitch of the mosaic pattern on each row.
  5. Tip: Keep your ‘ls’ stitches slightly loose so the edge doesn’t bunch up near the increases.
  6. The color is indicated at the start of each row within square brackets [].
  7. We begin with 35 stitches in the Foundation Row and then add one stitch in each subsequent row, making the stitch count one more than the previous row.
  8. The instructions below are only for the forward pass. The return pass for every row is the same:
    • ch1, (yo, pull through two loops)* until one loop remains on the hook.

I love this shawl pattern. Thanks to you I’ve got the Tunisian mosaic bug and, luckily, a huge stash of yarn. Sadly I just need more hands and more hours in the day and all will be well! Thank you for yet another gorgeous pattern.

Beautiful shawl, Arunima! The little infinity symbols remind me of something called "mucenici" in Romania, a cute infinity shaped pastry made for the holiday with the same name and served with milk. Yum.
