Why Tunisian Mosaic Crochet

  1. It is a beautiful yet simple technique. You only work with two stitches and you can create some very intricate patterns with it!
  2. There are no color changes in the middle of a row. All the color-work magic happens through the stitches only.
  3. We don’t have a million ends to weave in or create an envelope border! This is because Tunisian crochet is worked on one side only since we don’t have to turn the project after the completion of a row.

About the Shawl

The Ira Shawl is an intermediate level Tunisian Mosaic Crochet triangle shawl pattern. I designed it to be a mosaic sampler that is made up of 5 different repeating patterns and it was a lot of fun to see how the different patterns worked up.

TCAL Details

This TCAL is going to be 6 weeks long – we will spend the first 5 weeks making the different mosaic pattern sections in the shawl and the last week is dedicated to the border and binding off.

I will also host one live session every week (more if needed) in the Facebook group – around 10.30 PM Melbourne time which would be 7.30 AM CST – to answer any questions you may have and to discuss the sections we will focus on in the coming week.

The yarn

I used Chroma Fingering Yarn by KnitPicks in colors Galentine and Bare to make my shawl. This yarn is warm and cozy and my shawl has an amazing drape.

The hook

This pattern requires a hook with a cord – you will need a cord long enough to be able to hold 470 stitches. I used my Knitter’s Pride Ginger Interchangeable Tunisian Crochet Hooks to make this sweater.

Here is a review of the Ginger Tunisian Crochet hooks if you’d like to take a look. There are a bunch of other Tunisian crochet hooks that I use. You can read a review of all the hooks I use here.
